VGST(Vision Group of Science and Technology)

Vision Group on Science and Technology was founded in October 2008. The governing person at the time of foundation was the scientist Bharat Ratna Prof. CNR Rao. CNR Rao is associated with the National Research Professor and Honorary President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru. 

The VGST organization has put the efforts to initiate the Science and Technology Programs. The organization acts as an advisory body to recommend these programs. These programs are mandated in Dept of Science & Technology, Govt of Karnataka. 

The VGST is working towards the promotion of Science and Technology education in the Karnataka state. The organization also works towards research in these fields. 

VGST plays a crucial role in empowering educational organizations to check the scientific and technological demands. To achieve this goal, the VGST organization systematically develops strategies. The policies are made to transform basic science education and research including engineering degree education.

The VGST also promotes science among the general public. To achieve this, VGST collaborates with various partners like the state dept, other universities, private organizations, and institutes.

VGST Work

VGST works towards the formulation of programs that are associated with the advancement of Science and Technology in the Karnataka State. The list of programs run by VGST is given here.

Vision

VGST has the vision of promoting Science & Technology in the state so that society will be knowledge-driven. The main highlights of the vision of VGST are given below.

  • VGST will encourage the students for the development of S&T-based education.

Programs at VGST

VGST is implemented following programs. These programs are implemented as per the directions of Vision Group.

  1. Development of Centres of Excellence in Science/Engg/Medicine/CESEM: This program aspires to suggest grants to educational organizations to establish Centres of Excellence in Science/Engg, & Medicine.
  2. Centres of Innovative Science/EnggEducation/CISEE: This program strives to offer grants to educational organizations to establish Centers for Innovative Science and Engineering Education.
  3. Research Grant for Scientists/Faculty/RGS/F: This program is devised to concede and sustain faculty members in science & engineering who are vigorously engaged in research.
  4. Karnataka Fund for Infrastructure Strengthening in Science/Technology/K-FIST: This program is devised to offer grants to higher education organizations within the Karnataka state to improve infrastructure and support research & development exercises.
  5. Awards for Research Publications/ARP: This program strives to inspire faculty members who have published high-quality research in national/international journals. The organization also works to recognize these people from colleges/universities/ research institutions within the Karnataka state for their work.

Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS)

The Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society/KSTePS is a liberated organization. The KSTePS works under the Dept of Science and Technology/DST, Govt of Karnataka. The KSTePS was founded in 2013 under the Societies Registration Act of 1960.

KSTePS is associated with the work of formulation and execution of policy. These policies are for the Dept of Science and Technology. It serves as a nodal agency for managing funds. The KSTePS organization coordinates with the programs of the Dept across the Karnataka state. KSTePS also does the work of identifying priority areas in science and technology that contribute to the long-term development of the Karnataka state. It will help to build core competencies in advanced fields of Science and Technology.

At present, the KSTePS is chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt, Dept of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology. The members of the KSTePS organization are drawn from various line departments. The Director (Technical) of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology is working as the Member Secretary and Managing Director/MS of KSTePS.
